AKRON, O.H. (Sept. 26, 2024) – The Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation is proud to announce the renewal of its partnership with FirstEnergy Corp. as the presenting sponsor of the Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay through 2027. This continued collaboration further strengthens a bond that has been in place since the race’s inception, demonstrating FirstEnergy’s steadfast commitment to the Akron community and the race that brings it together.
Since the beginning, FirstEnergy has played a vital role in the success of the Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay, with more than 100 of their employees lacing up each year to run in the event. Their support goes beyond financial contributions, as they continually provide volunteers and resources, embodying the “Experience the Energy” branding that will appear on sponsorship elements throughout the event including an enhanced FirstEnergy Finisher Festival and block party kits. In alignment with FirstEnergy’s commitment to sustainability, the sponsorship renewal will support new green initiatives for the 2025 races, including HydraPak cups that reduce the use of paper cups at fluid stations as well as branded shoe recycling stations.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with the Akron Marathon,” said Brian X. Tierney, president and CEO of FirstEnergy Corp. “Stewardship is a core value at FirstEnergy that we embrace through our involvement in our local communities, including marquee events like the Marathon. It’s more than just a race; it’s a celebration of community, resilience, and the energy that drives us all forward. We’re also pleased to add sustainability elements to our sponsorship that will support a healthy environment.”
“We are grateful to FirstEnergy for their unwavering support over the years,” said Anne Bitong, president & CEO of the Akron Marathon Charitable Corp. “Their dedication to the Akron Marathon has been a cornerstone of our success, and we are thrilled to continue this journey with them. Together, we will not only deliver an exceptional race experience but also pioneer sustainable practices that will benefit our community for years to come.”
